Spicing Up Your Nonprofit Newsletter
Newsletters are crucial for your nonprofit. They keep your donors updated and wanting to give back, that is...if done right. Another dull, boring newsletter is bound to end up in the trash folder without a second glance. It’s essential to spend time and effort into crafting a newsletter that grabs your donors’ attention. It might seem like the last of your nonprofit’s worries, but a spectacular newsletter can be extremely beneficial for you and your donors.
Newsletters don’t have to be “all work and no play”. Keep it interesting. That way, whenever you send out your newsletter, your donors are excited to open the e-mail. Add in a unique and enticing subject line and bright, eye-catching graphics and witty text. Don’t be afraid of straying away from the banal newsletters everyone is used to seeing in their inboxes.
Make the Donor Feel GOOD
Don’t forget that people like to donate to feel good about themselves. Yes, really. Make sure your donor knows that they’re making a difference. Hype them up and give them a pat on the back. Your newsletter is a way of saying “hey, don’t forget about us” and giving your donors a little praise is going to keep them coming back.
Short & Simple
Honestly, I rarely read long, winding e-mails. I just don’t have the time and I’m sure that I’m not the only one that feels this way. Keep it short, something that people can read relatively quick on their phones. Making your newsletter “on-the-go friendly” (i.e being able to read it while waiting for coffee) is a definite way to get people to actually read what you’re sending.
Don’t Forget Your PURPOSE
Adding in appealing graphics and text is going to spice up your newsletter, but always remember what you’re trying to accomplish from your e-mail.
Don’t let your newsletter kill your nonprofit. Often times the newsletter is pushed aside until the last possible second, but putting in the necessary effort will pay off.
